Mindful Thoughts on Mindful Matters

12 Steps to Mindfulness

This 12 step program is designed to bring focus on the present. In doing so we connect the mind, body and spirit in a way that brings self- love. Instead of looking for distractions we look internally for focus, love, forgiveness and a spiritual connectedness that when brought together eliminates stress and brings focus on what's important...this moment...right here... right now. The only moment that matters. There may not be another so why not live this one right?

  1. Accept that I am in control; I have the power to control my life, my spirit is directed by connecting with the mind and body to bring positive things in to my life.
  2. Acknowledge that the past cannot be changed; so therefore it is but a lesson.
  3. Embrace the future for the promise that it may hold; I cannot control the future with anything except by what I do at this very moment.
  4. Know that the present has elements of the past and the future in it; there can be no present without the past or the future, like a rose cannot exist without the sun and the earth. The past and the future are part of the present, but the present is where I focus.
  5. I will practice meditation to seek answers; using this method for reflection and to find direction. I will practice it as often as I can and learn that through meditation I have the power of focus. Eliminating the noise created by things that do not serve me and focusing on the things that are within my control.
  6. Recognize that I have the answers within to heal my wounds and quiet my worries, to not let fear, doubt or worry creep in to my life.
  7. Accept that Happiness and Peace are possible; I am worthy of happiness. By making the changes I need to make I am opening myself to the possibility of peace and the promise of happiness.
  8. I define who I am; other things and other people do not define me, I am not about things I am about presence. I define myself as a spiritual being, a loving human who embraces the world around me
  9. I Meditate on the Fact that I am present for myself; to love myself, to accept myself as I am, imperfect and beautiful as I was created to be.
  10. I accept that I will take one day at a time; I will honor this moment by living fully in it. Becoming truly alive in the moment I will meditate on the knowledge that moments are not infinite. We are given only so many moments in our lives and it is my duty to live each moment to its fullest potential.
  11. When I get overwhelmed I know to breathe in meditation; using the focus of breath to quiet the mind and calm the spirit I am able to bring myself back to the present and release the stress of that which does not serve me.
  12. When I wake in the morning I will look to the possibility that the day has to offer; starting the day in meditation on being alive, on living the moment, on accepting what is and loving myself just as I am.
